What is ISO 42001?

Artificial Intelligence has become a critical element in digital transformation. However, its use entails risks associated with ethics, transparency, security, and privacy. ISO 42001 establishes the international framework for managing the AI system lifecycle in a structured and controlled manner, ensuring its reliability and alignment with organizational values.

The objective of this service is to implement an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) in accordance with the ISO 42001 standard, which allows the organization to develop, deploy, and use AI systems in an ethical, secure, transparent, and legally compliant manner.

Applicability

Who does ISO 42001 affect?

  • Organizations in any sector that use AI or plan to implement it, especially regulated sectors (finance, insurance, healthcare, energy, public administration).
  • Applicable to both internal AI and services from external providers (cloud AI, third-party APIs).
  • Full AI lifecycle coverage: development, training, deployment, maintenance, and decommissioning.
  • Integration with standards, laws, and regulations in cybersecurity and data protection:
ISO 27001
Leverages existing information security management processes, including risk analysis, access controls, continuity, incident management, and internal audits.
ENS
Ensures that AI systems meet information protection requirements based on their criticality and data category, integrating basic, medium, and high-level security measures.
NIS2
Guarantees operational resilience and the notification of AI incidents that may affect essential services or critical providers.
GDPR / LOPDGDD
Privacy impact assessment and anonymization or pseudonymization measures for data used in AI.

Frequently Asked Questions

We answer your questions

What is the difference between ISO 42001 and the EU AI Act?

ISO 42001 is a voluntary management standard that provides the framework for implementing a responsible AI Management System (AIMS). The EU AI Act is a mandatory European regulation that classifies AI systems by risk level and imposes specific legal requirements. They are complementary: ISO 42001 facilitates compliance with the EU AI Act.

How long does an ISO 42001 implementation take?

It depends on the size of the organization and the maturity of its AI processes and systems. We conduct an initial gap analysis to estimate the actual scope of the project before committing.

Which organizations need ISO 42001?

Any organization that develops, deploys, or uses AI systems, with particular relevance to regulated sectors: financial, insurance, healthcare, energy, and public administration. It also applies to organizations that use AI from third-party providers in their critical processes.

Can it be integrated with an existing ISO 27001?

Yes. ISO 42001 shares the Harmonized Structure (HLS) with ISO 27001 and other management standards, allowing the AIMS to be integrated with existing systems (ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 31000, etc.).

What does the support up to certification include?

We cover the gap analysis and establishment of the FSMS, system documentation, support for compliance, evaluation through internal audit, and preparation for certification.
