Multiple vulnerabilities in Hi5.com social network
Multiple vulnerabilities in the Hi5.com social network: POST requests via GET, persistent XSS, and CSRF.
Antecedentes
Hi5 (www.hi5.com) is a social network founded in 2003 by Ramu Yalamanchi, with 80 million registered users.
Description
The social network has several vulnerabilities: POST requests can be made using the GET method; there is persistent Cross-Site Scripting, in which the attacker's data is stored on the server and displayed on normal pages to other users without escaping the HTML; and Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF), an attack that forces an authenticated user to perform unwanted actions.
Business impact
These vulnerabilities allow JavaScript to be executed and open up many possibilities for malicious users, such as taking control of Hi5 social media accounts or infecting millions of users. One of them is making all Hi5 profiles visible (or performing any other action), for example, automatically accepting comments on the victim's profile via CSRF simply by visiting a page.
