Joomla! 1.5.10 JA_Purity Multiple Persistent XSS
Multiple Persistent Cross-Site Scripting in the JA_Purity template included in Joomla!.
Antecedentes
Joomla! is an award-winning, open-source content management system (CMS) that allows you to build websites and online applications. It includes three default templates, one of them JA_Purity.
Description
The JA_Purity template, included in Joomla!, does not sanitize user input. An attacker can inject JavaScript or DHTML that is stored in the cookie and made persistent, executing in the context of the victim's browser to steal cookies. The getUserSetting() function in ja_templatetools.php reads the $_GET array and saves the data in a cookie.
Business impact
An attacker can exploit the vulnerability to store persistent XSS, which can lead to the theft of user cookies and access to their account.
Affected systems
Joomla! 1.5.10 and earlier, which include the JA_Purity 1.2.0 template.
Solución
Update to version 1.5.11. All inputs should be sanitized in the setParam/getParam functions, in the same way it is done in the Joomla! request library.
