SmbClientParser perl module allows remote command execution
Remote command execution vulnerability in the Perl SmbClientParser module via manipulated folder names.
Antecedentes
SmbClientParser is a Perl module for programming interactive NetBIOS code. It is a wrapper for the Linux smbclient command, available on CPAN.
Description
The module executes the command using backticks (`$pargs`) after applying insufficient filters to the arguments. If a tool based on this module explores a shared folder containing a directory with a manipulated name (for example, ' x && xterm ), shell commands are executed on the scanner's machine.
Business impact
Remote execution of commands on the machine exploring the shared resource.
Affected systems
All versions up to and including 2.7.
Solución
Apply the proposed patch, which adds a Sanitize function to remove dangerous characters. The issue was reported in 2006 with no response from the author, so caution is advised with CPAN modules.
